A Case of Advertising Bias by the
Media
A well known cable service offering advertising
within the central Ocala, FL area has chose to censor an
advertisement media element due to the use of the word “Ho”. Their
argument was that there would be too many phone calls complaining
about the ad. However, the same station airs an ad for a local adult
night club known for nude women, adult toys, DVD’s and other
services. This is an acceptable advertisement even though it shows a
women on a dance pole, men drinking and DVD’s out of focused in the
background with the announcer telling what they are. This seems like
a double standard. Of course, it is probably more about the amount
of money being spent then the actual content in the long run. The
amount of profit and the personal bias of the sales manager toward
the use of the word “Ho” that is.
